Welcome! May News and Updates

Welcome to the May edition of Hood College’s Counselor Connection! As the academic year comes to a close, we’re busy preparing for the class of 2020 and getting ready to start the next admission cycle!

Over the past month, we’ve welcomed dozens of families and student groups on our campus for daily visits and tours as well as our Spring Open House, and we hosted an admitted student reception in Annapolis to accommodate our incoming students with busy schedules.

We also held our annual Admitted Students’ Day on April 9, and it was a great success! 136 of our admitted students and their families attended the event, where they were able to interact with faculty, coaches and current students; explore campus; attend two mini-courses (a unique Hood offering); and meet other prospective members of their class through our “Hood Hello” program. Nearly 30 of our admitted students also registered for the ASD Evening Experience, which allowed them to see what a typical Friday night is like on Hood’s campus. Accompanied by a group of current students, they ate in the dining hall, explored the areas of campus that they didn’t get to see on tour, and attended “Dash for Dollars,” an event where current and incoming students alike competed to win cash and prizes.

As we’ve reflected on the various successes and challenges of this year, we have decided to make Hood College Common App exclusive for all populations beginning with students who create applications for the fall of 2017. This change will make it easier for our applicants (and their counselors!) to submit their application and supporting materials quickly and easily, and it will eliminate a bug in which students using the Hood Blazer App were unable to have their documents uploaded through Naviance.

If you have seniors who are still uncertain about their post-graduation plans, please encourage them to contact us. We have a limited number of spaces (including housing) for qualified applicants to join the Class of 2020. As always, our application is free of charge and can be accessed here.
