Honors to Honors

The Hood College Honors Program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to expand their knowledge base and critical thinking skills through an interdisciplinary exploration of topics. All transfer students who have successfully completed two years of an honors program at another college before transferring to Hood will be automatically invited to join the Honors Program at the junior level without having to complete the first- and second-year course requirements. Honors students will also be awarded a $2000 renewable scholarship for their participation in the program.

In order to complete the Honors Program, transfer students must complete at least 9 credits in honors courses at the 300-level or above, including at least one HON470 seminar. Additionally, all students in the Honors Program must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language through at least the 202 level.

Joining the Hood Community as a Transfer Student

Students who transfer to Hood College are able to live in residence halls on Hood’s campus or commute to class from off-campus housing. For students who prefer to reside on campus, there are three residence halls specifically for sophomore, junior and senior students. While the dorms are traditional “hall-style” residences and are generally set up to allow for two students per room, transfer students are able to request a single room if they prefer to live alone.

For students who prefer to commute to Hood from an off-campus residence, there are designated places on campus for commuter student parking, lockers for storage during the day, and a commuter lounge for students to spend time between classes. The lounge contains a kitchen for those who prefer to pack a lunch from home, as well as couches, televisions, and study areas. This fall, Hood will be implementing a new parking plan to allow additional space on campus for commuter students to park their cars.

entrancebanners.jpgWelcome to the April edition of the Hood College Counselor Connection. As May 1 quickly approaches, excitement is building around the Hood College Class of 2021, and we’re wishing you and your students the best of luck with registration, final exams, and college placements!

The last few months of the school year are bittersweet, as we prepare to say farewell to our graduates and welcome our new freshmen to campus. Already, more than 20 new students have accepted invitations to join our highly selective Honors Program, and many more students have decided to call Hood their home for the next four years. We are proud to announce that four students have accepted our brand-new full-tuition award, the Chair of the Board scholarship, and will be joining us in August.

We are also excited to welcome 50 high school and independent counselors to our campus this week as part of the Maryland Crab Crawl, an annual, week-long tour of 11 private colleges throughout our state. The counselors will get to take tours of each campus, meet students, attend a reception on the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, and more. If you have never visited our beautiful campus in Frederick, MD, please let us know and we will help plan your trip.
