February News and Updates

ShieldWelcome back to the Hood College Counselor Connection! Since the last issue, we’ve been hard at work planning events, reading applications, and chatting with prospective students about everything Hood has to offer.

ABET Accreditation

Last month, Hood College became one of just 12 schools in Maryland to receive ABET accreditation for our B.S. Computer Science program. This accreditation was granted after an extensive peer-review evaluation process, and it will give Hood’s computer science graduates an advantage over their peers in the job market. We are excited to welcome Laurie Ward to campus this month as the new executive director of marketing and communications. Ward comes to Hood from Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania, where she served as chief marketing and communications officer. She brings with her years of experience in marketing and public relations for private liberal arts colleges, and she is looking forward to working with the Hood College community to strengthen the brand and increase awareness.

Top Scholars

On February 11th, we will be welcoming a number of academically outstanding prospective students to campus for Scholars Day. This invitation-only event will consist of interviews, meetings with faculty, and lunch with the president and provost. Four of the students in attendance will be selected as recipients of our Chair of the Board Scholarship, a full-tuition award that is renewable for four years.

What would you like to see in future editions of the Counselor Connection? Let us know in the comments or by emailing Whitney Yount at yount@hood.edu.

Have a great semester!
