ShieldWelcome back to the Hood College Counselor Connection!

Although our semester is winding down, we are continuing to accept and evaluate transfer applications for Fall 2017 admission throughout the summer. Students are encouraged to schedule a visit at our campus in Frederick, MD to learn more about the transfer application process. Please explore the links in the sidebar for additional information about transfer-specific events and visits.

All transfer applicants who indicate that they will be enrolling as full-time students are automatically considered for renewable merit scholarships at the time of admission. This year, Hood is offering three levels of merit scholarship awards for full-time transfer students:

  • Leader’s Award – 40% of tuition

  • Trailblazer Award – 33% of tuition

  • Recognition Award – 25% of tuition

For more information about transfer admission, please contact Cheryl Banks (banks@hood.edu; 301-696-3354) or Erin Botker (botker@hood.edu; 301-696-3813). We look forward to hearing from you and your students!

Welcome! April News and Updates

entrancebanners.jpgWelcome to the April edition of the Hood College Counselor Connection. As May 1 quickly approaches, excitement is building around the Hood College Class of 2021, and we’re wishing you and your students the best of luck with registration, final exams, and college placements!

The last few months of the school year are bittersweet, as we prepare to say farewell to our graduates and welcome our new freshmen to campus. Already, more than 20 new students have accepted invitations to join our highly selective Honors Program, and many more students have decided to call Hood their home for the next four years. We are proud to announce that four students have accepted our brand-new full-tuition award, the Chair of the Board scholarship, and will be joining us in August.

We are also excited to welcome 50 high school and independent counselors to our campus this week as part of the Maryland Crab Crawl, an annual, week-long tour of 11 private colleges throughout our state. The counselors will get to take tours of each campus, meet students, attend a reception on the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, and more. If you have never visited our beautiful campus in Frederick, MD, please let us know and we will help plan your trip.

The Final Countdown

May 1 is just around the corner, and as students are making their final college decisions, we’re hard at work getting ready for the class of 2021 to join our campus community!

This Saturday, April 8, we are welcoming about 160 families to campus for Admitted Students’ Day, which will allow prospective students to meet faculty and staff members, sit in on “minicourses” of their choosing, explore campus, and get to know other potential members of their class. About 50 of the prospective students attending this event have also registered to spend the night on campus the night before (April 7), and they will be able to participate in a fun evening, including having dinner and a mocktail hour with our current student leaders! If you are currently working with students who have been accepted to Hood College for the fall 2017 semester, please encourage them to sign up for Admitted Students’ Day here.

On March 25, we hosted our annual Spring Open House, and it was a great success! Prospective students ranging from high school freshmen to seniors attended the event with their families, and they were able to interact with faculty and staff members from every department on campus, hear from parents of current students and recent graduates, talk with a panel of current students about life on campus, and more!

Although the Spring Open House is over, we will be holding large group presentations and tours from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 22 and Saturday, April 29. Additionally, we are open for tours and meetings with an admission counselor every weekday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with additional visit times available during the weeks of Spring Break for Frederick and the surrounding counties in Maryland.

We love to have groups visit campus, so feel free to contact our office at 301-696-3400 to arrange a visit for your students!

By the way, if this year is like most, you may be faced with students who have suddenly changed their plans for the fall and are looking for other options. We project that we will have openings for the fall class beyond May 1 in many of our programs and for campus housing. If you have a student who might be interested in Hood College, please have them contact us soon at 301-696-3400 or admission@hood.edu.
