ShieldWelcome to the Hood College Counselor Connection! We hope you had a restful Thanksgiving and are ready to tackle the final weeks of this semester before leaving for a well-deserved holiday break.

We are continuing to accept students and award financial aid for both the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters on a rolling basis. Each applicant is automatically considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of admission.

We are excited to announce the following news from Hood College:

  • As of December 1, we are evaluating applicants for acceptance to the four-year nursing program. First-round nursing decisions will be mailed in mid-December, and a second round of nursing decisions will occur in early March for students who have not yet applied or are not accepted during the first round.

  • Next month, we will be sending out invitations for academically superior students to join us at Scholars Day, where they will be considered for one of four full-tuition Chair of the Board scholarships. For more information, click here.

  • Winter sports are in full swing, and both our men’s and women’s basketball teams are performing well within our athletic conference!

This spring, we will be the temporary home of a Shared Studios Portal, which will allow our students to communicate with others across the world in real time. Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming months, and click here to read more about the portal!

Welcome! November News and Updates

Alumnae_Hall_SM-560x361Happy November 1, and welcome back to the Hood College Counselor Connection! This year marks the 125th anniversary of Hood College, and we are thrilled to be celebrating the College’s history as we look toward the future and continue to improve our community.

We are now in the process of reviewing applications for next year’s incoming class, and we will continue to review applications and award financial aid on a rolling basis throughout this academic year. Students are currently being reviewed for both Spring and Fall 2018 admission, and all students are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships.

In addition to celebrating our 125th anniversary, we are excited to announce the following news from Hood College:

  • We recently signed enrollment agreements with Frederick Community College, Carroll Community College, and Montgomery College to make it easier for transfer students to join our community. We look forward to adding to this list throughout the year!

  • Beginning with the class of 2022, residential students will be required to live on campus for their first three years at Hood. To facilitate the implementation of this new policy, we are in the planning stage for construction of a new residence hall.

  • Yaa Gyasi, author of Homegoing, recently visited campus as part of our first-year read program for a discussion, Q&A session, and a book signing event.

  • Crystal Griner ‘06 was awarded the President’s Medal for Obligation by our president, Andrea Chapdelaine, Ph. D. in a ceremony held on campus in late September. Griner, a Capitol Police Officer, was recognized for her heroic actions when a gunman opened fire during a congressional baseball practice earlier this year.

If you are a member of a professional organization that needs a meeting location, we would love to host your event! Please contact Elizabeth Gomer (gomer@hood.edu) for more information.

As the fall semester quickly approaches, we are continuing to accept and evaluate transfer applications for Fall 2017 admission. Applications can be submitted at http://www.hood.edu/apply/, and classes will begin on Aug. 21. On-campus housing is available for transfer students, and we offer a variety of meal plans for both residential and commuter students.

Students are encouraged to schedule a visit at our campus in Frederick, MD to learn more about the transfer application process. Please explore the links in the sidebar for additional information about transfer-specific events and visits.

All transfer applicants who indicate that they will be enrolling as full-time students are automatically considered for renewable merit scholarships at the time of admission. This year, Hood is offering three levels of merit scholarship awards for full-time transfer students:

  • Leader’s Award – 40% of tuition

  • Trailblazer Award – 33% of tuition

  • Recognition Award – 25% of tuition
