Admission Requirements – First Year

Hood College admits students on a rolling basis beginning in October each year. Students will be notified of their acceptance status and any merit scholarship offer they might qualify for within three weeks of submitting a complete application.

Students may apply through the Common Application. There is no fee for our application.

A complete application includes:

  • Application and essay (prompts are given on the application)
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a teacher and one from a guidance counselor)
  • An official transcript (sent directly from your high school)

Hood College takes a holistic approach in reviewing applicants for admission. Priority is placed on the student’s high school performance and the rigor of the courses selected. There are several ways a student may personalize their application; this may include visiting campus and meeting with an admission counselor or providing a link to their ZeeMee profile, among others. Hood College is completely test optional, meaning that we do not require students to submit SAT or ACT scores for admission.

Students who apply to Hood College are automatically considered for renewable merit scholarships. This year, Hood is offering three levels of merit scholarship awards:

  • Founder’s Award – 50% of tuition
  • Trailblazer Award – 33% of tuition
  • Recognition Award – 25% of tuition

Additionally, Hood will automatically consider all freshmen for the Chair of the Board Scholarship, a full-tuition award that is renewable for four years. Candidates for this award must be admitted to the college by January 15. Eligible students will be invited to campus for Scholars Day, an event held in early February where they will participate in an interview with faculty members and have an opportunity to meet other students. Between two and four Chair of the Board full-tuition Scholarships will be awarded based on this event.

Students applying for the four-year nursing (BSN) program will be evaluated for admission to the program in two rounds – the first in December and the second in March. Students applying for the program by the first of either December or March will be considered in that round, and decisions will be mailed on the 15th of the month. Students not accepted to the program during the first round will be considered during the second round.
