DSC_2126Hello, and a (belated) Happy New Year! We hope that your new marking periods have been off to a great start – and hopefully not too hectic!

Our class of 2022 is shaping up quite nicely, but there’s still plenty of time for your students to join our Hood family! With the start of the spring semester, we are continuing to accept and review applicants for our Fall 2018 term. Applicants are automatically reviewed for merit-based scholarships upon applying, and our financial aid team is hard at work to get financial awards out to all of our accepted students.

We are excited to announce the following news from Hood College:

  • We will be welcoming the best of the best to campus on February 10 for our prestigious Scholars Day. These students will have the opportunity to interview for three full-tuition scholarships covering their four years at Hood. For more information about this outstanding scholarship, click here .

  • We’re going to be hitting the road soon for Spring travel season! If you’d like to have Hood College represented at any school-wide, regional, or even statewide fairs, reach out to us at or 301-696-3400.

  • It’s almost time for Hood to host our Shared Studio Portal! For more information about this incredible, immersive experience to allow visitors to communicate with others across the globe, click here .

  • We are proud to introduce the Kozo and Martha Hearn Shimano ‘86 Scholarship. This scholarship is geared toward international students attending high school in the United States, providing additional funding to help make Hood College more affordable for those who typically are not eligible for federal and state financial aid.

Spring Visit Opportunities

It’s starting to get warmer outside (well, not today, but soon!), which means it’s a perfect time to show off our beautiful campus! We have a number of visit options throughout the semester for students at all stages of the college search process.

Our Game Day event, scheduled for Saturday, March 3, is a perfect time to see our athletes in action. Stop by our tailgate, grab a bite to eat, and learn more about Hood!

On Saturday, March 24, at our Spring Open House, students will have the opportunity to learn more about Hood’s outstanding academic programs, student life, athletics, and financial aid. This event is geared more towards sophomores and juniors beginning their college search, but is open to students of all ages.

For those students who have already applied and been accepted to Hood, our Accepted Students’ Day on Saturday, April 7 is a terrific option to get last minute questions answered and confirm a decision on attending Hood. Students will sit in on mini-courses with professors and small groups with current Hood students to learn more about what it’s truly like to be a Hood Blazer – not to mention, incoming freshmen could meet their future roommate!

February in Frederick

Downtown Frederick is just as lively as ever, with tons of exciting events for our students and visitors to experience. The first Saturday of every month, Downtown Frederick puts on an event conveniently named First Saturday! February’s First Saturday, “Fire In Ice,” includes late-night shopping and dining, ice sculptures lining the streets of downtown, live carving demos, and even fire dancers.

But, the fun doesn’t stop there – there are a number of events throughout the month of February in Downtown Frederick. Shrek The Musical will be playing through March, and a number of other plays will be held at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre. The Frederick Speaker Series continues at the Weinberg Center for the Arts with Ted Koppel on February 22 and students (of age) can take a class at Flying Dog University on pairing beer and cheese on February 23! No matter what you’re looking for, there’s something for everyone downtown – just a short walk from our campus!
