Welcome Back! September News and Updates

September 1, 2016  |  News  |  No Comments

Welcome back to school and back to Hood’s Counselor Connection! Last week, we welcomed 222 freshmen and nearly 100 transfer students to our campus with four days of orientation activities, culminating in our annual opening convocation ceremony and picnic on the residential quad.

It’s exciting to see campus bustling with students again, and we can’t wait to start reading applications for the Hood College Class of 2021! Earlier this year, we made the decision to become Common App exclusive, and we’re looking forward to the ease that this transition will bring to the college admission process for our prospective students (and their counselors!). Additionally, we are once again 100 percent test optional, so no incoming students are required to submit SAT or ACT scores.

As in previous years, we do not have an application fee, so please encourage any interested seniors to apply for admission to Hood without concern for the expense! We will begin evaluating prospective students on a rolling basis later this month and continue throughout the school year. Once an application is submitted, students can expect both an admission decision and, in many cases, a financial award package within two to three weeks.

Our holistic review process takes into account everything that a student sends to us, and we welcome additional letters of recommendation, portfolio pieces, or other unique contributions to a student’s application. To supplement students’ Common Applications and help get to know them a little better, we have partnered with ZeeMee, a free online service that allows students to submit a video profile with their application and find other students who share their interests and hobbies. We’re excited for the opportunity that ZeeMee provides for us to gain insight into our applicants’ personalities, especially for students who are unable to come to campus for a personal interview!

Chair of the Board Scholarship Announcement

September 1, 2016  |  News  |  No Comments

Hood College is pleased to announce a new full-tuition scholarship program for outstanding first-year students entering the Fall of 2017.

All prospective first year freshmen will be considered for this prestigious scholarship. To be considered, students must complete the admission application process and have been offered admission to Hood College no later than January 15. Candidates will be selected from the pool of admitted students who demonstrate outstanding achievement both academically and in out-of-class activities.  It is expected that these students will have the talent, ability, academic achievement and motivation to compete for Fulbright-type recognition by the end of their undergraduate career.

All candidates will be invited to attend Scholars Day, to be held on February 11, 2017. At that time, candidates will participate in a scholarship interview, meet with faculty and current honors students and lunch with the president and provost. Campus tours will also be offered.

The scholarship recipients will be named no later than two weeks following Scholars Day. The College intends to award four Chair of the Board Scholarships for the Fall 2017.

The scholarship is renewable annually, for up to four years, as long as the student is making satisfactory progress towards a bachelor degree and maintains a 3.5 GPA.
