December 5, 2017  |  News  |  No Comments

ShieldWelcome to the Hood College Counselor Connection! We hope you had a restful Thanksgiving and are ready to tackle the final weeks of this semester before leaving for a well-deserved holiday break.

We are continuing to accept students and award financial aid for both the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters on a rolling basis. Each applicant is automatically considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of admission.

We are excited to announce the following news from Hood College:

  • As of December 1, we are evaluating applicants for acceptance to the four-year nursing program. First-round nursing decisions will be mailed in mid-December, and a second round of nursing decisions will occur in early March for students who have not yet applied or are not accepted during the first round.

  • Next month, we will be sending out invitations for academically superior students to join us at Scholars Day, where they will be considered for one of four full-tuition Chair of the Board scholarships. For more information, click here.

  • Winter sports are in full swing, and both our men’s and women’s basketball teams are performing well within our athletic conference!

This spring, we will be the temporary home of a Shared Studios Portal, which will allow our students to communicate with others across the world in real time. Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming months, and click here to read more about the portal!

RaiseMe Partnership

December 5, 2017  |  Financial Aid  |  No Comments

fb_bannerHood College is excited to partner with Raise.me to offer a scholarship incentive program for high school students! As the class of 2018 continues to work on college applications and the class of 2019 is preparing for next year’s college search, we wanted to share this opportunity and encourage you to spread the word among your students.

Through Raise.me, students can now earn “micro-scholarships” from Hood and more than 200 other colleges for each of their academic and extracurricular achievements, beginning in ninth grade. Students can earn these micro-scholarships for getting good grades in their core classes, participating in extracurricular activities, completing community service, and more. Specifically, applicants to Hood College can earn:

  • $300 for each “A” earned in a core course

  • $100 for each year of perfect attendance

  • $300 for each AP or IB course

  • $500 for taking the PSAT

  • $10 for each hour of community service

Other counselors are using this free program to motivate students, improve outcomes, and reinforce the guidance that they’re already giving. Raise.me can help your students get a head start on their college search and develop into stronger applicants by seeing the financial impact that preparing for later success can have. The amount that students earn on Raise.me represents the minimum amount of aid that they’ll receive if they apply and are admitted to Hood College.

downtownDowntown Frederick, rated by Livability.com as one of the nation’s top 10 downtowns, is also home to nearly 700 businesses or organizations, giving our students the opportunity to get work experience through internships – all a short walk from campus! Come experience downtown Frederick for yourself – especially during the holiday season!

Every Saturday in the month of December, the Downtown Frederick Partnership is hosting December Saturdays! Hot cocoa, carolers, and even a holiday scavenger hunt are some of the many treats that will be available throughout the month in downtown Frederick, located a short walk from Hood’s campus. Students take advantage of our convenient proximity to shops and restaurants, especially during the holiday season! The last December Saturday, on December 23, is appropriately called the “Last-Minute Dash,” where shops will stay open late for those last-minute shoppers to get holiday presents for family and friends. Lights and decorations line Market Street, the main street that runs through downtown, providing a holiday ambiance fit for Hood students and families alike.
